SUBJECT TITLE:The Khmer Rouge RESEARCH TOPICHow did the Khmer Rouge affect Cambodia during 1975 – 1979. REASON OF CHOICEcoming from a Cambodian background it has definitely caused me to have a strong interest in the history of Cambodia, particularly the revolution that had affected millions of Cambodian people. However, the main reason why I chose this topic would be because it has affected my extended family in the past. The revolution had lead my family to escape Cambodia, and hence seek asylum in AustraliaI settled on one particular section of the revolution to research on, The Khmer Rouge. The reign of the Khmer Rouge altered the lives of the whole population, almost immediately. In this project, I will find out what caused the upbringing of the Khmer Rouge, how it affected millions of people and what brought a stop to the Cambodian revolution. FOCUS QUESTION- Who was the Khmer Rouge and what were their values/beliefs?- What did the Khmer Rouge do to the Cambodians?- How did this affect the Cambodians?- How has this impacted on Cambodian living in Australia today? RESEARCH PROCESSES- Research what the Khmer Rouge did to the Cambodians in secondary sources eg. internet, newspaper articles and books from in the library. - For my primary sources I will be interviewing a Cambodian person who lived through the war. - Analyse Cambodia images taken in Cambodia during the reign of the Khmer Rouge.
ETHICS AND SAFETYI will need to references my sources that I have gathered. My research folio must be authentic and not copy right unless referenced. When interviewing, I need to make sure I ask questions that are appropriate due to war being a sensitive topic. I will inform them that they are able to withdraw from the interview at anytime if they feel uncomfortable, without being questioned. I will respect their opinions on the topic and value other people’s point of view. Limitations that could affect my Research would be that the interviewing person might be bias about the topic. They may also hesitant about answering some questions due to past experiences. RESEARCH TOPIC CAPABILITY I will focus the capabilities of personal development as this has affected my culture back round. I already know a bit of information on this research topic due to my cultural background and hearing stories from my family. During my research I will be interviewing my Father because he was in Cambodia during the reign of the Khmer Rouge and have experience the affects. I will have to improve my communication skills, be more confidence and ask for their opinions about my topic. This will be my primary source and will back up my topic question. WEEK 1
